I ordered this book after receiving and reviewing a number of others, so while I’m still fairly new to bonsai, I have done a good bit of reading on the subject. Lang’s work is very general and makes a reasonable starting point, but I don’t recommend it to anyone with some experience and background. More satisfying are Harry Tomlinson’s “Bonsai” and Colin Lewis’ “Bonsai Survival Manual,” although I found the latter also rather limited. Of the books I’ve read to date, Tomlinson is the one I would recommend most and whose other books I’m likely to look at or purchase.
