ANCIENT JAPANESE BLACK PINE BONSAI TREE

Product Description

This black pine is believed to be over 100 years old. It is part of a collection I aquired from the daughter of Mr. Mysuki an avid bonsai master. He had imported it from Japan many years ago and worked on its development for about 40 years. I have had it for 14 years and continued with its development to the present.  Two years ago I had Kathy Shaner, world reknowned bonsai master and teacher re-design it into a more semi-upright style.  She mentioned that it may have been collected in the mountains in Japan, from the looks of it and its apparent age.  The photos are not the greatest to show off this bonsai’s beauty and form, but I am not a professional photographer. A couple of the photo’s show the exposed roots in more detail and a top view gives you an idea of its complex branching.  If you look closely you can see some small pine cones.  As you know the needles of black pine are extremly long, but these are about 2″ maximum due to constant needle removal and the age of the bonsai. There are several areas, such as the roots and some of the major trunk that have shari of sorts. The dimensions are 15″ tall and 30″ long and approx. 24″ wide. It is planted in a 12″ round unglazed  bonsai pot, in a mix of akadama and kanuma. The trunk is over 3″ not counting the nebari. If you have any questions or would like other photo’s taken, please contact me and I will be happy to assist

BONSAI - Bonsai is in fact, an ancient practice involving the shaping and pruning of trees and shrubs into a structured form

Product Description

Many people consider bonsai a form of art. Bonsai can be an art, or for many, a hobby. Bonsai is also a form of horticulture and landscaping. Many interpretations of bonsai exist, something you will learn in this introductory guide to bonsai. Before you learn how to engage in the art or hobby of bonsai, you have to know what “bonsai” means. Most people think “bonsai” is a simple term used to describe a type of plant. This definition is only partially correct. To understand bonsai, first understand the foundation for the term, “bonsai.” The word bonsai when literally translated means “tray planting” or “potted plant”. Bonsai is much more however, than buying a tree or a plant and growing it in a pot or tray. Bonsai is in fact, an ancient practice involving the shaping and pruning of trees and shrubs into a structured form. The practice of bonsai for many can be quite peaceful and relaxing. Many engage in bonsai as a form of meditation or stress relief. Others enjoy the challenge of creating the perfect bonsai
