Bonsai Tree Juniper | Hercules

Product Description
This is a beautiful 9 year old Juniper Bonsai tree. Like all of our Constellation trees, this tree has excellent balance, proportion and realism.  They have depth, definition and look like a million bucks.  They also look great from far away because of their great silhouettes.  This tree stands 10 inches high and has a spread of 12 inches - an excellent value.  It’s a bit difficult to get a sense of the actual size of this Bonsai tree from the picture, but if you look closely you’ll see that we’ve placed an actual pecan on the surface of the gravel as a size reference. Bonsai is a Japanese term meaning “tree in a tray”, and this Bonsai is truly a great example of what a good Bonsai should look like: a century old real tree in miniature form.  This variety of Juniper (Dwarf Japanese Garden Juniper) has a very cool exfoliating bark, which means the bark sheds as it grows, giving it an aged look.  This Bonsai has the classic shape of an age-old t… More >>

by The Bonsai Tree Care on Monday, March 15th, 2010

Product Description
This dwarf Juniper from Japan is the most popular evergreen in the U.S.A. When we think of a traditional bonsai and what it should look like, we think of a “Juniper Procumbens Nana.” It is very hardy, long-lived and tolerates many adverse conditions. Trained as a Phoenix Graft.

A Phoenix Graft is the name commonly given to bonsai known as Tanuki. “Tanuki” is the Japanese word for “Badger.” In traditional Japanese folklore, this animal is responsible for playing tricks on people, so when a Tanuki is involved, nothing is quite what it appears. A Tanuki bonsai is a living tree “grafting” to a section of deadwood, often from another species entirely. The effect can be impressive. Most Tanuki, in order to make use of a lifeless trunk, are styled in the driftwood style. Tanuki are also called “Phoenix Grafts” after the mythological Phoenix which arose from its own ashes….
