Indoor Pine Bonsai - A Dwarf Tree

This unique indoor pine bonsai – measuring about 5 inches in height – is generally smaller than a regular bonsai plant, and it may very well be the smallest quasi-pine tree on earth. Disregarding size, the indoor pine bonsai possesses many of the same features as those of a mature tree in nature, giving the viewer the same impression that an actual pine tree would; its roots are slightly exposed and its trunk is strong. The trunk’s shape causes the tree to stand erect, which is (more…)

ANCIENT JAPANESE BLACK PINE BONSAI TREE

ANCIENT JAPANESE BLACK PINE BONSAI TREE

Product Description

This black pine is believed to be over 100 years old. It is part of a collection I aquired from the daughter of Mr. Mysuki an avid bonsai master. He had imported it from Japan many years ago and worked on its development for about 40 years. I have had it for 14 years and continued with its development to the present.  Two years ago I had Kathy Shaner, world reknowned bonsai master and teacher re-design it into a more semi-upright style.  She mentioned that it may have been collected in the mountains in Japan, from the looks of it and its apparent age.  The photos are not the greatest to show off this bonsai’s beauty and form, but I am not a professional photographer. A couple of the photo’s show the exposed roots in more detail and a top view gives you an idea of its complex branching.  If you look closely you can see some small pine cones.  As you know the needles of black pine are extremly long, but these are about 2″ maximum due to constant needle removal and the age of the bonsai. There are several areas, such as the roots and some of the major trunk that have shari of sorts. The dimensions are 15″ tall and 30″ long and approx. 24″ wide. It is planted in a 12″ round unglazed  bonsai pot, in a mix of akadama and kanuma. The trunk is over 3″ not counting the nebari. If you have any questions or would like other photo’s taken, please contact me and I will be happy to assist

Product Description

Beautiful pine up to 60-90 feet in the wild, but with a slow growth. Young trunk and branches smooth and greyish. Bark becoming darker and scaly after. Quite hardy in zones 4-9.
The Japanese White pine has the most “artistic” growth habit of any five-needle pine. It is a top choice bonsai specimen and an extremely graceful landscape tree. Rather slow growing, green to blue-green in color and variable in height. Native to Japan.
